Fake money lands beer lovers in trouble

counterfeit US$20 note

Two Plumtree-based men are in trouble after they allegedly bought beer with a counterfeit US$20 note.

Taridzai Oscar Mpofu (25) and Cardwell Chitono (25) were charged with fraud for using the fake currency.

The duo appeared before Plumtree Magistrate Joshua Nembaware, who remanded them in custody until January 7.

Prosecutors  alleged that on December 26, the suspects went to Chicken King Night Club, where they gave bar attendant Angella Sola a fake US$20 note—serial number 61907957H—to buy beer.

Sola gave them three bottles of Savanna cider and two Chiller Punch beers.

After the duo left the counter, Sola discovered minutes later that the money was counterfeit.

She alerted the management, who filed a police report, leading to the arrest of the two men.
