Villagers in Tongogara have welcomed the installation of streetlights at Tongogara growth point, saying the development has improved safety, convenience and the overall outlook of the area.
The lights were switched on on Christmas Day, drawing large crowds as residents gathered to celebrate the festive season. Many community members said the timing made the project feel like a special gift from the local authority.
“We are very happy as villagers because the growth point is now bright even at night,” said Tinashe Moyo, a resident of Tongogara.
The streetlights were installed by Tongogara Rural District Council (RDC) as part of its ongoing programme to modernise rural service centres.
Tongogara RDC chief executive officer Liberty Ncube said the council was working towards meeting national minimum service delivery standards.
