River Valley nears completion of Woodlands Park drainage upgrade

RIVER Valley Properties says work to upgrade the drainage system at its Woodlands Park housing project is nearing completion, in a move aimed at curbing perennial flooding and strengthening climate change resilience in the suburb.

The company’s representatives led by the chief executive officer Smelly Dube and Gweru City Council officials visited the site last Friday to assess progress on the project, which was initiated following concerns from residents over flooding in previous rainy seasons.

Speaking after the inspection, Dube expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of the work.

“I was gratified to note that the exercise is almost complete,” she said, adding that the upgrades would significantly improve stormwater management in the area.

Dube also commended the technical team and contractors on the ground for their commitment to the project, particularly given the challenging weather conditions brought about by ongoing rains.

“Their dedication, especially working in these rains, is commendable and deeply appreciated,” she said.

The drainage rehabilitation forms part of River Valley’s broader strategy to align its developments with climate change adaptation and mitigation efforts.

The company has positioned itself as a key player in promoting sustainable urban infrastructure while ensuring access to decent housing.

According to Dube, the upgraded drainage system will not only reduce flood risks, but also enhance the overall livability and long-term sustainability of Woodlands Park.

The project is expected to be fully completed in the coming weeks, bringing relief to residents who have previously experienced waterlogging and related damage during the rainy season.
