A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Hwange is believed to have been swept away while trying to cross flooded Deka River.
Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident and identified the missing man as Washington Ncube.
“On January 22 at around 8:20pm, a 31-year-old man who was travelling from Deka to Hwange is believed to have tried to cross Deka River, which was overflowing, and was swept away in the process,” Banda said.
He indicated that on January 23, the man’s spouse filed a missing person report.
“On January 24, villagers conducted a search along the Deka River and discovered his vehicle submerged in water.
“The police sub-aqua unit conducted a search, but could not locate the driver,” Banda said, adding that investigations were ongoing.
“We encourage motorists to wait for floodwaters to recede before attempting to cross rivers.”
