Two men from Bulawayo are standing trial on stocktheft charges after allegedly stealing a cow from a Fort Rixon farm, slaughtering it and selling the meat.
Jonathan Masuku (23) and Lungisani Tshabalala (30), both of Lobengula West, appeared before magistrate Challenge Mahembe.
The State alleges that in August last year, the pair, together with an accomplice, went to Jabulani Sibasa’s farm where they stole a cow valued at US$500.
State witness Liberty Mlalazi told the court that the trio initially mixed the cow — branded GIA2F1 — with the rest of the herd before slaughtering it weeks later.
After killing the animal, the accused allegedly sold the meat to a buyer sourced by Masuku.
Mlalazi has since appeared separately in court, pleaded guilty to stocktheft and is awaiting sentencing.
Sibasa reported the matter to the police after Mlalazi handed himself in.
Masuku and Tshabalala were remanded in custody to a later date for continuation of the trial.
