VILLAGERS and other stakeholders in Nkayi are delighted that despite the challenge of marginalisation in the district, the district recorded an increase in school pass rates.
Nkayi South MP Jabulani Hadebe told Southern Eye that they were delighted by the fact that some student excelled with flying colours in various subjects both at O and A Level
He highlighted that one student made history by passing 10 subjects at O Level in last year’s Zimbabwe School Examinations Council final examinations
“Despite the challenge of marginalisation which leads to shortage of schools and lack of resources, results for both O and A Level have improved significantly due to commitment shown by school authorities and students,” Hadebe said
He mentioned that a student at Hompane Secondary School outshone others in the whole district by passing with 7As and 3Bs at O Level
“This has never happened in this school before.
“Previously, one of the students managed 5As at O at the same school.
“This is showing an improvement.

“Even at A Level, there are more than 100 students scored 10 points.”
Hadebe pointed out that according to the schools ranking by passes for the district for the past four years and based on the 2025 examinations, Hlangabeza Secondary School came tops with 74,7% followed by Nkayi high with 56,49%
Hompane is rated number five with 27,27%, while Hlanganani claims the bottom spot with 3,03%, giving an average district pass rate of 24,68%
Another villager from the Gwelutshena area, Moses Mpofu, said he was elated by the developments.
“It is a welcome development, but what is also challenging is that our children are failing to proceed further with their education due to financial constraints experienced by the parents,” Mpofu said
“We need some assistance. Even if they finish school, there is no employment.”
