FOR a league that is still gradually developing into a more competitive competition, the Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League leadership should arguably consider reducing the number of teams in the top flight.
Fifteen teams may simply be too many at this stage of the league’s growth.
Zimbabwean women’s football standards are still catching up with more established leagues such as South Africa’s, which operates with 16 teams but has stronger infrastructure and resources.
A 10-team format could be more beneficial, allowing the season to run more efficiently, conclude earlier and create room for another cycle. Such a structure could help clubs focus more on player development and talent nurturing within a shorter, more competitive framework.
