Community outreach brings hope to Bulawayo orphanage

Children at Emthunzini Wethemba Orphanage in Bulawayo received a generous donation of food, toiletries, and sanitary products during a weekend outreach by Tree of Life, a community-driven organisation founded on principles of prayer and charity.

Tree of Life founder Strevis Mhlanga said  the group’s mission was rooted in evangelism and a desire to uplift society’s most vulnerable members.

“Our work is centred on prayer,” Mhlanga said.

“We do evangelism and reach out to communities through donations.”

He emphasised that the initiative is an inclusive community project, not a private family affair, welcoming members from various churches.

The organisation has previously donated wheelchairs and continues to assist vulnerable groups.

Saturday’s donation included essential items such as mealie-meal, cooking oil, soap, and sanitary pads.

The event also featured a testimony from Langa Khumalo, a Mater Dei chef and former street child who now works as a motivational speaker.

Khumalo urged the children to remain focused.

“The streets are tough... but that is not the end of the world. If you are given a chance, take that opportunity.”

Orphanage representative Nomanesisa Ncube said the donation would greatly support the children.

“These children belong to all of us as a community,” she said, appealing for continued support.
