Inyathi trio in court over savage machete attack

Three men from Inyathi in Matabeleland North have appeared in court charged with attempted murder following a brutal attack on a fellow miner with an array of dangerous weapons at a mine in Inyathi.

Charles Ncube (25), Ntabiso Bhebhe (36), and Nkosi Bhebhe appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira this week on charges of attempted murder.

The trio pleaded not guilty and have been remanded in custody until March 30.

The court heard that on January 9 at around 11 am, the complainant, Ashley Moyo, arrived at Dulutsha Mine in Siganda, Inyathi.

Moyo was aboard a lorry driven by Emmanuel Mhlanga and was accompanied by approximately 12 colleagues.

Upon their arrival, the group was confronted by Ncube and the Bhebhe brothers, who were allegedly armed with a machete, a spear, a knife, stones, and knobkerries.

It is alleged that Moyo’s colleagues fled into the surrounding bush as the accused persons surrounded him.

The court was told that Ncube struck Moyo on the left arm with a machete, causing him to fall to the ground.

Ntabiso and Nkosi then allegedly joined the assault, stabbing the complainant multiple times on the head, back, arms, and leg with a spear and a knife.

The court heard that other accomplices, who are still at large, participated in the attack, assaulting the complainant with stones and knobkerries.

Moyo was subsequently taken to a hospital for medical treatment.

A medical affidavit has been prepared to be used as evidence in the trial.

A police report was filed, leading to the arrest of Ncube and the two Bhebhe brothers.
