THE National Organisation for Development and Empowerment (NODE) says it is expanding its programmes in Bulawayo aimed at assisting vulnerable groups.
NODE Bulawayo provincial chairperson Eddie Benson Muchenje said the organisation’s programmes focus on providing social assistance to vulnerable groups, tackling drug and substance abuse among youths, and promoting economic empowerment.
NODE was founded in 2012.
“We aim to provide vulnerable persons with much-needed social relief, restoring their sense of self-worth and belonging as citizens of Zimbabwe,” he said.
Muchenje also highlighted growing concern over drug and substance abuse among young people, saying the organisation had intensified awareness and rehabilitation initiatives.
“With drug and substance abuse ravaging our youth, we as NODE have declared a war not only on drugs but also on the socio-economic factors that drive young people to abuse drugs.
“Through our Identify–Rehabilitate–Empower model, we are committed to walking with individuals struggling with addiction down the long path to a healthy lifestyle,” he noted.
He added that empowerment programmes were being implemented to equip young people and disadvantaged community members with practical skills in sectors such as mining, agriculture and fabrication.

“The idea is to move beyond handouts. Beneficiaries are taught practical skills so that they can earn a living and contribute positively to the country’s economy.”
Muchenje said NODE was also exploring opportunities in development projects in Bulawayo, including affordable housing initiatives targeting micro and small enterprise owners.
“We want to play a role in initiatives that benefit the youth and evoke a sense of pride for the city,” he said.
He added that the organisation was also involved in voter mobilisation programmes targeting young people ahead of future elections.
“Our programmes are also designed to encourage youth participation in national processes and ensure that they play a role in shaping the country’s future,” Muchenje said.
