A 49-year-old man was allegedly axed to death following a dispute with an transporter he had hired, after discovering that some of his groceries were missing.
According to police, the deceased, Elias Kavhumbura Chimusito, from Rutendo residential suburb in Redcliff, hired Collen Ishmael to transport his groceries.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which occurred on Monday evening.
“It is alleged that the now deceased Elias Kavhumbura Chimusito hired the suspect, who uses an ox-drawn scotch-cart, to transport his groceries from Rutendo to Wentworth Farm," Mahoko said.
"On arrival at the destination, he (Chimusito) discovered that some of the grocery items were missing and he refused to pay for transport service.
"This angered Ishmael who took an axe from the scotch-cart and struck Chimusito on the head and left shin and as a result Chimusito fell to the ground and died on the spot."
Mahoko said ZRP Redcliff attended the scene and investigations led to Ishmael's arrest.
He said Chimusito's body was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for post mortem while Ishmael is expected to appear in court soon to answer to a murder charge.
