Bulawayo to host National Education Summit

The summit marks the evolution of the National Education Conference and Expo (NECE), which has grown into a key national platform over the years.

Bulawayo is set to become the centre of education transformation discussions as it hosts the National Education Summit Zimbabwe (NESZ) from May 27 to 29 at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Grounds.

The summit marks the evolution of the National Education Conference and Expo (NECE), which has grown into a key national platform over the years.

The rebranded NESZ is expected to bring together education leaders, policymakers, innovators and development partners to drive dialogue and action around improving the country’s education system.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to grace the event, which is being organised by Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe (AEZ) and the Primary and Secondary Education ministry.

Running under the theme From Policy to Practice: Driving Innovation and Investment in Zimbabwe’s Education System, the summit aims to bridge the gap between policy formulation and practical implementation, while fostering partnerships that can unlock investment in the sector.

Participants will include school heads, government officials, private sector leaders, development partners as well as education innovators and EdTech companies, all converging to share insights and chart a way forward for Zimbabwe’s learning ecosystem.

AEZ president Alson Darikayi told Southern Eye that the gathering represents a critical moment for the country’s education sector.

“The National Education Summit Zimbabwe is more than just an event; it is a national platform for action. We are bringing together key stakeholders to move beyond policy discussions and focus on practical solutions that can transform education in Zimbabwe,” said Darikayi.

He added that the summit will provide an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between government, industry and development partners in order to drive innovation and sustainable investment in education.

“Education is the foundation of national development. Through this summit, we want to accelerate the adoption of innovative approaches and mobilise the resources needed to ensure no learner is left behind,” he said.

Registration for the summit is now open, with organisers calling on stakeholders across the education sector to participate in what is expected to be a landmark event in shaping the future of learning in Zimbabwe.

AEZ is organising the summit alongside the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
