First Lady commissions Isizinda Cultural Centre

“Preserving our culture is preserving our identity, our pride and our future. When we safeguard our heritage, we empower generations to remain rooted as they grow,” said First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa last Friday officially commissioned the Isizinda Cultural Centre in Maphisa, Matabeleland South province, marking a significant step in the preservation and promotion of Zimbabwe’s cultural heritage.

The newly established centre is designed as a hub for safeguarding the country’s rich traditions, values and identity, while also serving as a platform for community empowerment and economic development. Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the First Lady underscored the importance of cultural preservation, noting that safeguarding heritage is key to sustaining national identity and pride.

“Preserving our culture is preserving our identity, our pride and our future. When we safeguard our heritage, we empower generations to remain rooted as they grow,” she said.

The Isizinda Cultural Centre features authentic traditional architecture, a model homestead and a performance stage, all aimed at showcasing Zimbabwe’s diverse cultural expressions.

The facility is also expected to play a pivotal role in promoting arts, domestic tourism and local economic activity in Matabeleland South.

In celebrating cultural diversity, the First Lady highlighted the importance of unity, saying such initiatives strengthen national cohesion. “As we celebrate our diversity, we equally strengthen our oneness as one united Zimbabwe,” she said.

The commissioning of the centre aligns with broader national efforts to harness culture as a driver for development, particularly in rural communities.

It is also set to provide a nurturing space for young people to engage in cultural and creative activities, fostering talent and preserving indigenous knowledge systems.

The First Lady reaffirmed her commitment to supporting community-driven initiatives that promote cultural heritage, empower citizens and contribute to the growth of domestic tourism across the country.
