75-year-old assaulted over alleged adulterous affair

A 50-year-old man from Fort Rixon was recently arraigned before the courts facing an attempted murder charge following an alleged violent altercation with a fellow villager over his wife.

Douglas Ndlovu was not asked to plead when he appeared before Bulawayo regional magistrate Mark Dzira after indicating that he intends to seek legal representation.

He was remanded in custody to April 29, as the complainant is still in hospital.

The incident allegedly occurred on April 13 this year.

The complainant, Shadreck Tshuma, was reportedly walking home with his son when they encountered Ndlovu.

It is alleged that a dispute arose after Ndlovu accused Tshuma of being involved in an inappropriate relationship with his wife.

During the confrontation, Ndlovu allegedly struck Tshuma several times with a knobkerrie, before he lost consciousness.

The court also heard that Tshuma’s son was struck once but did not sustain any injuries.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Ndlovu’s arrest while Tshuma was taken to hospital for medical attention.

The case is expected to

continue once Tshuma’s condition improves.
