Jeys Marabini expands brand beyond Zimbabwe

Marabini is a veteran Afro-jazz musician who began his career in the early 1990s with groups such as the Comforting Brothers before forming his own band, Imbizo.

Popular musician Majahawodwa Ndlovu, also known as Jeys Marabini, has taken his music beyond Zimbabwe’s borders with the aim of expanding his brand and reaching a wider African audience.

His tour to South Africa includes appearances on several mainstream radio and television platforms, including Khaya FM, Soweto TV, Channel Africa, Thobela FM, and One Africa TV.

In an interview, Jeys Marabini said the move marks an important step in his career.

“I have done everything I could in Zimbabwe, and now is the time to continue my journey in other countries,” he said.

“Being here in South Africa is a way of pushing my brand so that more people can know Jeys Marabini.”

The artist said the response so far has been encouraging, giving him confidence that his music can resonate beyond Zimbabwe’s borders.

He also noted that African artists often overlooked opportunities within the continent while focusing on markets overseas.

“Most of the time we concentrate on other continents and leave Africa behind. I want to pursue my journey here at home as well,” he said.

He adopted the stage name Jeys Marabini and released his debut album Emarabini in 2002.

The Bulawayo-based musician blends Afro-jazz with traditional Zimbabwean rhythms, imbube influences, and marabi township music, creating a sound rooted in African cultural identity.

He is expected to remain in South Africa for two weeks before returning to Zimbabwe to assess the next steps in his musical journey across Africa.
