Hwange women’s group takes legal leap

A community-based women’s group in Hwange’s Empumalanga suburb has taken a significant step towards formalisation and sustainability after unanimously adopting its own organisational constitution over the weekend.

The Sizimisele Women’s Community Garden Project, located near the local board clinic in Ward 5, approved the document on Saturday following weeks of consultations and drafting sessions.

The project is made up largely of widows and single parents, many of whom face severe economic and social challenges.

Legal practitioner Daniel Molokele, who also serves as Hwange Central legislator, assisted the group on a pro bono basis after members sought professional guidance to formalise their operations.

“The process culminated in the unanimous adoption of the organisation’s constitution after a series of meetings over the past few weeks,” Molokele said.

“This is a critical step that will allow the project to open an organisational bank account and improve its financial management systems.”

The adoption is expected to strengthen governance structures within the project and enhance accountability as the group seeks to expand its activities.

Molokele also pledged further capacity-building assistance, drawing from his experience in organisational development gained during his time in South Africa.

“We have agreed that I will facilitate a project proposal writing workshop for the members later this month, at no cost,” he said.

Members of the project have been described as resilient and determined, with their collective efforts seen as a model of grassroots empowerment in the community.

The Sizimisele Women’s Project focuses on community gardening as a means of improving livelihoods, particularly for vulnerable women.

The latest development is expected to position the group for growth and potential funding opportunities.

Community stakeholders have welcomed the milestone, expressing hope that formalisation will enhance the project’s long-term impact and sustainability.
