Govt rallies education stakeholders ahead of national summit

Primary and Secondary Education ministry's permanent secretary Moses Mhike said the gathering would provide a strategic platform for dialogue, partnerships and practical solutions aimed at transforming the country’s education sector.

The Primary and Secondary Education ministry has called on schools and education stakeholders across the country to actively participate in the National Education Summit Zimbabwe (NESZ) 2026 as the country intensifies efforts to strengthen education delivery, innovation and sustainable development.

The summit, which is being organised in partnership with the Action for Empowerment Zimbabwe (AEZ) will be held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo from May 27 to 30 under the theme: “From Policy to Practice: Driving Innovation and Investment in Zimbabwe’s Education System.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to officially open the fourth edition of the four-day education symposium.

Primary and Secondary Education minister Torerai Moyo is serving as the convenor of the summit and is expected to lead discussions on reforms and implementation strategies within the education sector.

The high-level gathering will feature a strong line-up of ministers, legislators, academics, education stakeholders and private sector leaders.

“We encourage schools and education stakeholders to actively participate in this important national platform as Zimbabwe collectively works towards strengthening education delivery, innovation and sustainable development within the sector,” Mhike said.

He said the summit seeks to strengthen the implementation of education policies through innovation, partnerships, investment mobilisation and technology integration in schools.Mhike said the event would bring together government ministries, school authorities, educators, development partners, tertiary institutions, local authorities, private sector players and learners to deliberate on the advancement of the country’s education system.

According to the ministry, discussions during the summit will focus on education financing and investment, innovation and digital transformation in education, artificial intelligence and technology integration in schools, as well as technical and vocational education and training.

Other key thematic areas include teacher development and professional excellence, accountability and transparency in education governance, inclusive and equitable education systems, mental health and learner wellness, and school safety.

The summit will also examine public-private partnerships in education development, climate resilience and sustainable infrastructure for schools, curriculum transformation and competency-based learning, as well as entrepreneurship, innovation hubs and skills development for the future economy.

Mhike said the education sector must embrace innovation and collaboration to prepare learners for the demands of a rapidly changing global environment while supporting the country’s Vision 2030 aspirations.

Schools across the country, including school heads, deputy heads, heads of departments, teachers, administrators and School Development Committee chairpersons, have been invited to attend the summit.

The ministry said the event will also create opportunities for networking, exhibitions and the exchange of ideas among education stakeholders committed to improving learning outcomes in Zimbabwe.
