Body of missing mentally ill man found in sewage

The body of a 40-year-old mentally ill Bulawayo man has been discovered soaked in muddy sewer water along the banks of a sewage stream.

Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, identified the deceased as Zithelo Ndlovu, a resident of Gwabalanda. Ndlovu’s body was found on the stream near Ntemba Road in Pumula East.

According to police, a 15-year-old boy from Pumula East was walking along the banks of the sewage stream near Intemba Road on May 16 at 3pm when he stumbled upon the body.

“The body, soaked in muddy sewer water, was lying face down and had no visible injuries,” Msebele said.

She indicated that a report was made to the police, leading to the retrieval of the remains.

Relatives later identified the body and told police that the victim had a history of mental illness and had been missing since May 9, 2026.

The body was conveyed to United Bulawayo Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Investigations are ongoing.
