A TRUCK driver, found with a tonne consignment of dagga valued at US$1,2 million, has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs and will be back in court next week for bail application.
Thompson Ndou (58) of Dulivhadzimu, Beitbridge, appeared before Harare magistrate Francis Mapfumo, who remanded him in custody to Tuesday next week.
The State, in opposing bail, brought police intelligence officer Detective Assistant Simbi Padzakashamba, who, in an affidavit, argued that Ndou was not a good candidate for bail.
It is the State’s case that on June 1, 2026, police were tipped that Ndou was driving a 30-tonne haulage truck from Beitbridge to Harare towing a trailer carrying a metal container with a consignment of dagga.
The information further indicated that the dagga was packed in packages concealed in the container.
Acting on the information, police mounted an operation and intercepted Ndou’s vehicle in Southerton, Harare.
The court heard that police approached the vehicle and identified themselves to Ndou, who was behind the wheel.
A search was conducted resulting in the recovery of numerous sealed plastic packages containing compressed dagga.

The court also heard that Ndou was arrested and taken to the police station for further management.
The law enforcement agents seized the dagga, haulage truck, trailer, metal container and a cellphone as exhibits.
The officers issued Ndou with exhibit seizure confirmation receipts for the exhibits.
