Police have arrested five suspects and seized 360kg of loose dagga valued at approximately ZiG10,8 million following an operation along the Bulawayo–Solusi Road.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) identified the suspects as Gordon Nkowu (58), Nkosiyabo Moyo (57), Shepherd Nkomo (43), Beven Sibanda (40), and Isaiah Moyo (31).
According to police, the suspects were travelling in a Toyota Hilux Single Cab, registration number DN08VG-GP, which was towing a trailer bearing registration number KW27Y2-GP.
The trailer was allegedly carrying the illicit drug, which had been smuggled from South Africa through Botswana into Zimbabwe.
All five suspects were arrested at the scene and remain in police custody pending further investigations.
The vehicle, trailer and the recovered dagga have been seized as exhibits.
Police described the interception as a significant breakthrough in efforts to combat cross-border drug trafficking and organised crime.
Investigations are continuing to establish the intended destination of the consignment and identify other individuals who may be linked to the smuggling network.
