Bulawayo braces for massive traditional spiritual gathering

Hundreds of people are expected to converge in Bulawayo this weekend for a traditional spiritual gathering hosted by popular traditional healer Gogo Chihoro, as growing numbers seek spiritual guidance amid mounting social and economic pressures.

The day-long spiritual dance gathering is scheduled for this Saturday at Gogo Chihoro’s shrine in Mahatshula North, starting at 6am and running until 1PM, according to organisers.

Organisers say the event is expected to draw attendees from across the country seeking spiritual cleansing, protection and guidance.

Speaking to Southern Eye, Gogo Chihoro’s spokesperson, Sibonginkosi Maphosa, said the gathering follows a successful overnight spiritual event held in May that attracted a large turnout.

Maphosa said overwhelming public response from the previous event prompted organisers to introduce a daytime programme.

“We are expecting people from different provinces. Many are coming with personal challenges, family problems and issues affecting their businesses and livelihoods,” Maphosa said.

She said worsening economic hardships were pushing many people to seek spiritual intervention as they search for solutions to daily struggles.

“People are looking for solutions in difficult times. Some believe they are facing spiritual attacks, while others simply want protection, peace and breakthroughs in their lives,” she said.

Maphosa also claimed that some cases involving young people battling drug and substance abuse could have spiritual dimensions, urging parents seeking spiritual assistance to attend the gathering.

The event comes at a time when traditional and spiritual healing practices continue to attract significant followings in Zimbabwe, with many turning to alternative forms of support to cope with personal, social and economic challenges.
