THE Zimbabwe Republic Police in Bulawayo recently convened an urgent meeting with car park owners following a surge in thefts targeting old shape Honda Fit vehicles across the city.

The high-level engagement, held in Bulawayo, was graced by assistant commissioner operations Didmus Sakarombe.

Discussions centered on tightening security at parking facilities and devising strategies to end what police described as an ongoing "siege" of Honda Fit thefts.

Authorities urged car park owners to enhance surveillance systems, diligently record vehicle and driver details, and establish closer communication channels with law enforcement to aid in identifying suspects.

Sakarombe emphasised that collaborative efforts are critical in reversing the trend.

The ZRP reiterated that strong partnerships with stakeholders, including private parking operators, are fundamental to reducing vehicle crime in the province.

The meeting forms part of broader operational responses to address the spike in incidents, with police promising increased visibility and swift action against perpetrators.

Car park owners welcomed the initiative and committed to implementing the recommended security upgrades to protect customers' vehicles.
