BULAWAYO, Jul. 22 (NewsDay Live) – First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa has donated 800 pairs of bed sheets and 800 pairs of draw sheets to Mpilo Central Hospital in a move aimed at improving patient welfare and strengthening healthcare delivery.
The donation was received on her behalf by the Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Judith Ncube, who was represented by Provincial Affairs and Devolution Secretary Paul Nyoni.
“It is a great honour and privilege to stand before you today as we witness this generous donation of 800 pairs of bed sheets and 800 pairs of draw sheets to Mpilo Central Hospital,” Ncube said.
“On behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe, the Ministry of Health and Child Care, the hospital management, staff and the people we serve, I extend our deepest and most sincere gratitude to Her Excellency, the First Lady of the Republic of Zimbabwe, Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, for this remarkable act of compassion and generosity.”
Ncube said the donation went beyond providing hospital linen, describing it as a demonstration of commitment to improving the welfare of patients at one of Zimbabwe’s largest referral hospitals.
“Clean, adequate and quality hospital linen plays a vital role in infection prevention and control, patient comfort, dignity and the overall quality of healthcare services,” she said.
“Her Excellency has consistently demonstrated that leadership is best expressed through service to humanity. Through her many charitable initiatives, she has continued to reach out to the vulnerable and strengthen our national health institutions.”
Ncube said the government valued partnerships that complement efforts to strengthen the country’s healthcare system and urged hospital staff to ensure the donated items were properly managed for the long-term benefit of patients.

She also expressed hope that the donation would inspire more individuals and organisations to support public health institutions.
Mpilo Central Hospital acting director of operations Phineas Sithole thanked the First Lady for the donation, saying it would improve patient care and hospital operations.
“We can now manage a seven-day meal plan due to the First Lady’s donations,” Sithole said, adding that previous donations had also improved the hospital’s supply of blankets.
He also said such philanthropic initiatives help strengthen relationships between communities and public institutions.
