BULAWAYO, Aug.5 (Southern Eye Live) -Donkey owners in Gwanda South, Matabeleland South province are receiving free veterinary services being rolled out by AWARE Zimbabwe, with support from Working Animals International.
AWARE Zimbabwe programme director Erick Mutizhe said the programme is running from August 4 to 7 as part of efforts to improve the health and welfare of donkeys.
“AWARE Zimbabwe is pleased to announce the commencement of Working Animals International (WAI)-supported mobile donkey clinics in Gwanda South District from 4 to 7 August,” Mutizhe said.
The programme complements the work of the Department of Veterinary Services by providing free veterinary care, donkey-owner education and community engagement.

According to AWARE Zimbabwe, the services include clinical examinations, treatment of common donkey ailments, wound management, deworming and anti-parasitic spraying.
Gwanda South Member of Parliament Ompile Marupi urged donkey owners in the constituency to take advantage of the free veterinary service.
Donkeys remain an important source of draught power for most rural households in Matabeleland South province.
