Tsholotsho Rural District Council has placed 10 tonnes of elephant hides on advance sale, inviting licensed buyers to pay upfront for hides still being harvested under an official management quota.
In a public notice, council chief executive officer Nkululeko Sibanda said the hides were not currently in stock but buyers could secure their allocation by paying in advance.
“Harvesting of these hides is actively in progress under the official management quota,” the council said, adding that the hides would be mobilised and handed over to the successful buyer once they became available.
“Hides are not currently in stock...the willing buyer will pay in advance for the full 10 tonnes of hides to secure the allocation.”
However, buyers would not have to wait until the entire consignment was available before collecting their purchase.
The council said buyers could collect the hides in smaller partial-tonnage batches as they were made available.
“The buyer can be collecting hides in smaller partial tonnage batches as soon as they are made available by Tsholotsho RDC,” the notice reads.
The council has also imposed licensing and tax compliance requirements on prospective buyers.

“For all hides, buyers should produce Trophy Dealers Licence, Tax Clearance and PPE,” the notice states.
The public notice, headed “Advance Sale of Elephant Hides (10 Tonnes),” invites interested buyers and sellers to contact the council for further information.
Natural Resources officer Victor Ncube is listed as the contact person for enquiries.
The sale is being conducted against the background of the country’s regulated management of wildlife resources under official quotas, with elephant products subject to statutory controls and licensing requirements.
Tsholotsho RDC urged interested parties to engage the council for further details on the advance sale and allocation process.
