BULAWAYO, SEPT 7, (SOUTHERN EYE LIVE) - A 39-year-old Bulawayo man appeared in court over illegal possession of 26kg of dagga with a street value of ZWG780 000.
Nhlanhla Manzini was charged with unlawful possession of dagga as defined in section 157(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act where he pleaded not guilty.
Magistrate Sibonginkosi Mkandla remanded him to 8 September.
Prosecutor Mufaro Ndirayire told the court that on July 25 this year, detectives from and Narcotics in Beitbridge intercepted cross-border driver Thulani Ndiweni at Beitbridge Border Post and recovered a bag containing dagga.
“Thulani Ndiweni then implicated the accused person as the owner of the contraband. A controlled delivery was then initiated. On 26 July 2026 at around 6pm, police officers from Beitbridge CID Drugs and Narcotics and Bulawayo’s CID Drugs and Narcotics teamed up and planned how to effect the arrest," she said.
The court also heard that the accused was lured to the scene after being contacted by the truck driver over the alleged contraband. According to the State, the accused did not suspect that he was being set up and proceeded to the meeting point, leading to his arrest.
