BULAWAYO, SEPT 7, (SOUTHERN EYE LIVE) - Two pedestrians were killed in separate road traffic accidents in Bulawayo over the weekend, with police attributing both crashes to motorists failing to keep a proper lookout.
In the first incident, which occurred at around 10.30pm on Saturday, a 57-year-old Nketa 9 man was driving a Toyota Hilux southwards along Masiyephambili Drive when he struck two pedestrians who were crossing the road westwards.
One of the pedestrians, a 40-year-old man from Tshabalala Extension, died on the spot after sustaining head injuries.
The second pedestrian, a 52-year-old man, sustained head injuries and was taken to Mpilo Central Hospital for medical attention.
In the second incident, which occurred at around 6.50pm on Sunday, an unidentified motorist travelling eastwards along Luveve Road struck a man believed to be about 20 years old who was crossing the road northwards.
"The motorist did not stop after the accident. The pedestrian was wearing a sky-blue T-shirt inscribed “Nike” at the front and grey jeans. He sustained a cut on his right hand and was bleeding from the nose before dying at the scene," police said.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu urged motorists to exercise extreme caution while driving.
