A 28-year-old Chivi man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for murdering a Kwekwe man with a homemade spear.
Tinashe Mapaike, of village Mapaike under Chief Chipindu in Chivi, Masvingo, was convicted and sentenced by the High Court circuit sitting in Gweru for the murder of Taurai Makwiramiti (41), a resident of Jean Kleer 20 Mine, Tiger Reef, Kwekwe.
Prosecutors said the incident occurred on November 26, 2025, at about 9pm, when Makwiramiti was at his residence preparing supper.
The court heard that Mapaike stormed into the yard armed with a homemade spear and confronted Makwiramiti over an undisclosed matter.
During the confrontation, he struck Makwiramiti once on the forehead, causing him to fall to the ground, before fleeing the scene.
Makwiramiti was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for treatment, but died from his injuries the following day.
Police investigations led to Mapaike’s arrest.
Prosecutors said he made indications at the primary crime scene and later led detectives to the place where he had hidden the weapon used in the attack.
