Goals galore as Southern Region League title race tightens

It was a weekend of goals, drama and twists in the Pacific Breeze Southern Region Soccer League as 28 goals were scored in a thrilling Week 26 programme.

The biggest scoreline came at Chiefs Village, where Talen Vision’s unbeaten run came to an end in spectacular fashion after they were beaten 5-3 by Bulawayo Warriors in an eight-goal thriller.

The defeat proved costly for Talen Vision, who had only recently taken top spot from Hwange, as the title race was thrown wide open with just a handful of matches remaining.

Hwange seized the opportunity to reclaim pole position after beating Megawatt 2-0 at Chakona on Sunday.

The result left the two leading sides tied on 57 points, with goal difference separating them.

Hwange currently boast a superior goal difference of 38, compared to Talen Vision’s 33.

The battle for the championship is, therefore, finely poised, with both teams having little room for error in the remaining matches.

Jordan occupy third position with 53 points, while Nkayi are fourth on 51 points, keeping the race for the leading positions equally intriguing.

There was more drama at White City B Arena, where Bulawayo City surrendered a two-goal advantage against Zebra Revolution.

City appeared to be in control after establishing a 3-1 lead, but Zebra Revolution produced a remarkable comeback to win 4-3 in another seven-goal thriller.

The result provided a major boost for Zebra Revolution’s battle against relegation, although they remain among the teams fighting for survival.

At the bottom of the table, Mosi Rovers have already thrown in the towel, leaving three teams facing a desperate fight to avoid joining them in the drop.

Bosso90 sit second from bottom on 21 points, while Njube Spurs and Zebra Revolution are also battling to climb away from the relegation zone.

With the title race separated by goal difference at the top and the relegation battle tightening at the bottom, the Southern Region league is heading into its closing stages with plenty still at stake.

Last weekend’s goal feast underlined the unpredictability of the competition, with both ends of the table set for potentially dramatic finishes.
