(SOUTHERN EYE LIVE): A 55-year-old Gokwe North man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for killing his wife following a domestic dispute.
Wiseman Sai was convicted of the murder of his wife, Lucia Mpofu (27), at Chingarande village under Chief Chireya in Gokwe North district.
The High Court circuit in Gweru heard that the incident occurred on January 29 this year.
A misunderstanding arose over an undisclosed matter between Sai and Mpofu and degenerated into a physical fight.
Sai strangled his wife and stabbed her on the chest. The couple' two minor children witnessed the incident and fled from the room to alert their grandfather.'
The grandfather rushed to the scene and found Mpofu lying outside the room in a pool of blood, with the knife still lodged in her chest.
Sai fled from the scene but was later arrested following a police report.
A post-mortem examination established that Mpofu succumbed to cardiac tamponade caused by a heart laceration and a stab wound to the chest.
