The much-anticipated Roast of Bosso at 100 Years Reloaded is set to take centre stage tomorrow at the Highlanders Clubhouse in Bulawayo, following its postponement last month.
The event promises an evening of comedy, football banter and reflection on the rich history of the Bulawayo giants as Highlanders celebrates its centenary.
Among those lined up for the roast are former Highlanders goalkeeper Reward Muza and former defender Lawrence Mhlanga, who are expected to face the comedic spotlight.
Veteran broadcaster and entertainer Sipho Mazibuko, Butholezwe Ntini and Sensei Tendai Maduwa will also feature, with Ntando Moyo taking on the role of roastmaster.
The event was initially scheduled for August 21 at Large City Hall but was postponed to September 25 due to unforeseen circumstances.
Organisers, uMahlekisa Entertainment Club, said the delay was necessary to ensure the event lived up to the significance of Highlanders’ centenary celebrations.
The roast was conceived as part of the celebrations marking Bosso’s 100th anniversary, offering supporters a different perspective on the club’s history through comedy, storytelling and football banter.
The rescheduled event comes as domestic football takes a break for the international window, giving Highlanders supporters and football personalities an opportunity to celebrate the club away from the pitch.
The postponement followed the death of Highlanders patron and long-serving board member Jimmy Ncube, who died at United Bulawayo Hospitals.
uMahlekisa Entertainment expressed condolences to the Highlanders family while assuring supporters that the event would proceed at a later date.
“The Roast of Highlanders was conceptualised to celebrate Bosso’s centenary through an evening of comedy, laughter, and reflection,” the organisers said when announcing the postponement.
The event will now shift the spotlight from the football pitch to the stage, where some of the club’s familiar personalities will be subjected to good-natured ribbing.
Organisers said the evening would also celebrate the characters, personalities and colourful history that have shaped one of Zimbabwe’s oldest and most supported football clubs.
