A 52-year-old man from Phumelela Village under Chief Maduna in Filabusi has been sentenced to an effective 20 years in prison for raping his two granddaughters aged 12 and 13 years old
The Gwanda regional court heard that the abuses occurred between November 2025 and June 2026, with the offender raping his 13-year-old granddaughter on four occasions at his homestead.
On June 4 this year he lured his 12-year-old granddaughter into his bedroom and indecently assaulted her.
The case came to light after the 12-year-old girl fled the homestead and sought refuge at her maternal aunt's home, where she disclosed the abuse.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police, resulting in the man's arrest. Both victims were referred to hospital for medical examinations.
The court sentenced the offender to 20 years' imprisonment on the rape charge and a further 20 years on the aggravated indecent assault charge.
The sentences were ordered to run concurrently, resulting in an effective 20-year custodial sentence.
