BULAWAYO, SEPT 28, (SOUTHERN EYE Live): THE Tshitaudze Cultural Festival ended on Sunday after three days of celebrating, preserving, and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Matabeleland South province.
Chief Tshitaudze hosted the event that featured ball games, schools' cultural dance competitions, performances by adult traditional groups and exhibitions by tertiary institutions, government departments, the private sector and other partners.
Exhibitors showcased traditional artefacts, crafts, foods, products and services, while the final day culminated in the official ceremony attended by thousands of people from Zimbabwe and beyond.
In his remarks, Matabeleland South Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Albert Nguluvhe emphasised that culture should not only be celebrated but should also contribute towards economic development, employment creation, tourism and improved livelihoods.
He encouraged communities to transform traditional foods, crafts, clothing, agricultural products, indigenous knowledge and other cultural assets into sustainable economic opportunities.
Guest of honour Vice-President Kembo Mohadi emphasised that culture remains fundamental to national identity and development.
He highlighted Zimbabwe's cultural and linguistic diversity.
"The country's 16 official languages reflect different identities while Zimbabweans remain united under one national flag," he said.
