BULAWAYO, OCT 5, (Southern Eye-Live) -The Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services is pushing for the transformation of the Connemara Open Correctional Prison into a liberation heritage site.
Mid government efforts to leverage heritage sites for tourism under Vision 2030.
The project was announced by Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) Midlands Deputy Officer Commanding, Assistant Commissioner Clemence Chigogo when commissioned officers and students from the country's security services toured the site on September 28.

Chigogo, who represented Midlands Officer Commanding Commissioner Somemore Gate, said security institutions have a duty to preserve such sites through research and investment.
"As members of the security services we should champion the development and restoration of the heritage site, we need to invest in research to uplift the site," he said.
Officer-in-Charge Superintendent Cephas Mabasa briefed the delegation on the institution's wartime role and its transformation.
The delegation was led by Zimbabwe Defence Forces director-general of civil and military relations Brigadier-General Zitterson Gideon Sabeka and included officers from the Zimbabwe National Army, Air Force of Zimbabwe, ZPCS and Zimbabwe Republic Police.
