INYATHI, OCT 9, (SOUTHERN EYE LIVE): A suspected armed robber linked to four murder and robbery cases in and around Inyathi, Matabeleland North province, was shot dead by police after allegedly attempting to disarm officers along the Bulawayo-Nkayi Road.
Richmond Thomas Ndlovu died while being taken to hospital following the October 6 shooting near Kenilworth Turn-Off, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has said.
In a statement dated October 8, police said Ndlovu allegedly attempted to disarm officers at a secluded place before being shot in the leg and stomach.
“Subsequently, police recovered a Star Pistol loaded with seven rounds and a Colombian knife. The suspect died on the way to the hospital,” the police said.
The shooting followed the recovery of three pistols at Ndlovu’s residence in Exchange Village, Inyathi, on October 5 after his wife, Tryphine Phuti, 29, allegedly fled their home following threats that he wanted to kill her.
