BULAWAYO, OCT 9, (SOUTHERN EYE LIVE): A 39-year-old Bulawayo man has been arrested in connection with the murder of a security guard who was shot dead during a robbery at a service station in Silobela in June 2023.
Makhosini Mathobela, also known as Talent or Khiwa, of Old Magwegwe, was arrested on October 7 following a police tip-off, according to a statement issued by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Friday.
The deceased, Josiah Chidoma, was on duty with a fuel attendant at the service station at around 1am on June 14, 2023, when three unidentified suspects allegedly approached them pretending to be looking for fuel.
According to police, the suspects produced pistols and grabbed the fuel attendant, demanding money. She handed over the cash in her possession.
Chidoma, who was armed with a revolver, reportedly observed the robbery from another office and attempted to intervene.
“One of the accused persons shot him directly in the chest, and he died on the spot,” police said.
The suspects then fled the scene, and a police report was made.
Police said they received information on October 7 that Mathobela was in Old Magwegwe, Bulawayo, leading to his arrest.
