Plumtree Council orders informal operators to relocate to industrial site

BULAWAYO, OCT 9, (SOUTHERN EYE LIVE):  PLUMTREE Town Council has ordered people and businesses conducting industrial and related commercial activities in road servitudes and other unauthorised areas to cease operations and relocate to the designated industrial site by October 16.

In a public notice dated October 8, 2026, Town Secretary Thembalami Nyoni said the directive was part of Operation Chenesa, an initiative aimed at restoring order, protecting public infrastructure and road servitudes, and ensuring compliance with council regulations.

The notice targets a range of activities, including welding and metal fabrication, motor vehicle repairs, illegal fuel storage and sales, car washing, brick moulding, and mechanical and engineering services.

It also applies to other industrial or related commercial activities conducted without the requisite council licences, approvals or permits, or from unauthorised locations.

“All affected operators are hereby directed to vacate the road servitudes and other unauthorised areas and relocate their operations to the designated Industrial Site by Friday, 16 October 2026,” the notice reads.

Council warned that enforcement action would be taken against operators who continue conducting business illegally or from unauthorised premises after the deadline.

Operators were also urged to regularise their businesses and obtain all necessary council approvals and licences.

The notice forms part of the council’s broader efforts under Operation Chenesa to promote orderly development and protect public infrastructure within the border town.

Plumtree Town Council’s stated vision is to become “a smart growing investor friendly border municipality by 2030”.
