ESIGODINI, OCT 10, (SOUTHERN EYE LIVE): THE Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has intensified crime awareness campaigns in Esigodini and Hwange, targeting stock theft, murder, drug and substance abuse and the illegal movement of livestock.
In Esigodini, police officers recently took advantage of the coronation ceremony of Chief Nomalanga Sigola in the Sigola area to conduct a crime awareness campaign that attracted more than 2,000 people, including government officials, traditional leaders and members of the local community.
During the campaign, officers raised awareness about prevalent crimes in the area, particularly stock theft, murder and drug and substance abuse.
The police urged community members to report criminal activities and work closely with law enforcement officers to maintain peace and security.

“The community was urged to report criminal activities, shun drugs and work closely with the police in maintaining peace and security,” the police said.
The campaign also highlighted the importance of community participation in crime prevention, with residents encouraged to remain vigilant and assist police in addressing criminal activities in their areas.
In a related development, police in Hwange conducted a crime awareness campaign at Hwange Bus Terminus, focusing on Operation Stock Theft Hot Pursuit.
The campaign targeted livestock owners, traders and members of the travelling public, educating them on the importance of complying with livestock movement regulations and taking measures to curb stock theft.
“The officers educated members of the public on the importance of obtaining stock clearance documents, complying with stock movement requirements, purchasing meat from verified and legitimate sources and reporting stray livestock to the police or relevant authorities,” the police said.
The police stressed the importance of obtaining the necessary documentation when moving livestock to help prevent the illegal transportation and sale of stolen animals.
Members of the public were also encouraged to buy meat from legitimate sources and report stray livestock to the relevant authorities to assist in tracing animals and preventing theft.
The two campaigns form part of the ZRP's broader efforts to strengthen community-police relations, raise public awareness of crime and promote collective responsibility for public safety.
