Junior president calls for radical child protection as world becomes a global village

Junior President Tinashe Marcos Mugodi has called for radical measures to protect children online as the world becomes a global village.

Mugodi was speaking in a video posted by Save the Children in Zimbabwe to commemorate Cybersecurity Awareness Month in October.

"October is #CybersecurityAwarenessMonth, and we're amplifying Children's voices" Mugodi who is the 34th Junior President of the Republic of Zimbabwe said.

Mugodi said Africa's future lies in young people.

"Africa at large constitutes of 60 percent of the populous as youth. Meaning that the whole entire population of Africa is in the hands of the young people," he said.

Mugodi urged authorities to be decisive on child protection.

“So our senior must not fumble. They must be brutal. They must be radical in terms of ensuring child protection."

Mugodi said increased connectivity has exposed children to new risks.

“As the world is coming to a period where it is becoming a global village, children will be heavily in contact with social media. So they must be protected. Their dignity must be protected. Rights must be protected,” he said.

Save the Children in Zimbabwe said it was using Cybersecurity Awareness Month to amplify children's voices on online safety.
