Zimbabwe moves to strengthen household resilience to tackle disasters

BULAWAYO, 15 Oct (Southern Eye-Live)- Stakeholders have been urged to embrace a whole-of-society approach to disaster risk management, with this year's International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction being commemorated under the theme "Resilience Starts at Home."

ActionAid Zimbabwe said the theme makes a call to all stakeholders to act, noting that resilience should begin at household level and extend to communities, institutions and national systems.

"We continue to commemorate the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2026, with this year's theme 'Resilience Starts at Home,' which calls on all stakeholders to act and embrace a whole-of-society approach to disaster risk management," ActionAid Zimbabwe said.

"Every household has a role to play in preparedness, risk reduction and responding to early warnings, while all stakeholders must work together to protect lives and livelihoods, particularly for the most vulnerable. It is time to move beyond merely surviving disasters to building resilient communities that can anticipate, withstand, recover and thrive in the face of adversity," the non-governmental organisation said.
