BULAWAYO,15 Oct (Southern Eye-Live)  -  A painful burn injury that kept a young girl out of the classroom for five months has been transformed into a story of hope after she received corrective surgery and returned to school.

Buhlebenkosi, whose burn injury affected her mobility and disrupted her education, was identified through a disability assessment conducted by World Vision Zimbabwe and its partners.

She was later connected to specialized medical care and underwent corrective surgery at CURE Children's Hospital of Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

The surgery has helped her overcome barriers that had kept her from school and daily activities.

World Vision Zimbabwe said the intervention is part of its commitment to ensuring vulnerable children access health, education and protection services.

"We believe every child deserves life in all its fullness. Through our disability assessments and partnerships with specialized health institutions like CURE Children's Hospital, we are able to identify children like Buhlebenkosi and connect them to life-changing care that restores not just their health, but their dignity and future," World Vision Zimbabwe said.

The organisation said it will continue working with communities and partners to ensure no child is left behind because of disability or lack of access to medical care.

Now back in school, Buhlebenkosi is enjoying everyday childhood experiences and working towards her dream of becoming a nurse.

Buhlebenkosi expressed gratitude for the support that changed her life.

"I am so happy because I can now go back to school and play with my friends. I want to thank World Vision and the doctors who helped me. I thought I would never walk well again or go to school, but now I can chase my dream of becoming a nurse," she said.

Her journey is a reminder that transformation is not simply about helping a child walk again but about helping them take steps towards their future.
