Nkayi, Oct17, (Southern Eye Live): A 49-year-old man from Nkayi has been sentenced to an effective 15 years in prison for raping his mentally challenged 14-year-old niece.
The man, from Chief Madliwa's areal, was sentenced by a Bulawayo regional magistrate for the sexual assault offence committed in March this year.
Prosecutors said on October 16, 2026, the offender approached the juvenile while she was herding goats near his homestead and raped her
The offence came to light after the victim’s sister noticed that the girl was pregnant.
When questioned, the juvenile disclosed the rape, prompting a police report that led to the rapist’s arrest.
