ZIMBABWE Golf Association (ZGA) has hailed Robson Chinhoi for achieving his best performance in the FBC Zimbabwe Open after finishing in a four-way tie for seventh on 6 under par for the tournament at Royal Harare Golf Club on Sunday.
Chinhoi shot rounds of 71, 68, 72 and 71 in four rounds and shared the place with Kyle de Beer, Samuel Simpson and veteran Hennie Otto.
It was the 34-year-old golfer's best performance in the country's flagship golf event as he also finished as the best golfer from Zimbabwe.
In 2023, Chinhoi finished in 24th place which was his best performance going into this year's event.
Chinhoi made his debut in 2017 and missed the cut on his first appearance before finishing tied for 38th in 2018 and 48th in 2022, while he had to settle for a tie for 29th place last year.
ZGA president Martin Chikwana was full of praise for Chinhoi.
“I'm so proud of Robson because I've known him from a very early age, and for him to be able to play at the tournament and not just play, he also has the relationship that he has not just with us Zimbabwean fans, but everywhere he goes,” Chikwana said.
“What makes me even more proud here is that I've seen Robson grow. I was captain of Hillside Golf Club way back and Robson was coming through and developing as a young player. I always retell the story that I won club champs for five consecutive years and the next person who won club champion way after me was Robson.

“This is a very difficult sport to participate in, and we need all the support that we can. We encourage all the corporates and everyone that's out there who would want to partner with Robson to take up this challenge and push this boy beyond what he's doing.
"We need a trainer, a physical trainer who is smart, that's the team that Robson needs. Robson doesn't have that team as far as I know at the moment. We need Zimbabwe to take part and make sure Robson has the full assistance that he requires for him to perform at such grand events and be successful.”
The FBC Zimbabwe Open is held under the auspices of the ZGA.
A total of seven local golfers made the cut in this year's edition, with another Zimbabwean, Stuart Krog, finishing in a tie for 20th place overall.
The tournament was won by Mexican golfer Luis Carrera, who shot 18 - under par 270, two shots ahead of second-placed Austin Bautista from Australia.
The event carried a US$200 000 prize fund from title sponsors FBC Holdings.
