Tapera sent on forced leave amidst poor results

Jairos Tapera

Manica Diamonds announced on Tuesday that head coach Jairos Tapera has been placed on forced leave following a dismal run of results that has left fans and management deeply dissatisfied.

The decision comes as the trend of coaching changes intensifies across the Premier Soccer League.

This week alone, Highlanders parted ways with coach Kelvin Kaindu, while Green Fuel's Taurai Mangwiro was reassigned from head coach to technical director, making way for Rodwell Dhlakama.

Manica Diamonds chairman, Masimba Chihowa, confirmed the move regarding Tapera. "It is true, we have sent Jairos Tapera on forced leave," Chihowa stated. "Everyone associated with Manica Diamonds is not happy with the team's recent results. We've reached a stage where something had to be done to address the situation."

Chihowa explained that the move provides an opportunity for the club to introspect and strategize for improvement.

In the interim, assistant coach Tafadzwa Mashiri will take over team management.

Sources within the club revealed that Tapera's forced leave is also a contractual technicality, as his current agreement expires next year.

"As we wait for the expiry of his contract, Tapera is likely going to be reassigned elsewhere within the club structures," a source noted.

Speculation is rife regarding potential long-term replacements. Reports suggest the executive management is considering names like Saul Chaminuka, Kelvin Kaindu, and fan-favorite Sicho Masachi for future roles within the technical setup.

Tapera's tactical decisions and player selections have been under scrutiny, fueling frustration among supporters.

Recently, angry fans confronted team secretary-general Sugar Chagonda, demanding Tapera's resignation after a disappointing home loss to Highlanders.

The atmosphere at Sakubva Stadium has been tense, with discontent over Tapera’s management reaching a boiling point as supporters rallied for change.

As Manica Diamonds navigates this turbulent period, all eyes will be on Mashiri to see if he can turn the team's fortunes around.
