ZPC Kariba hold high-flying Punters

MWOS scorer Aboubakar Moffat

ZPC KARIBA’S home match against MWOS FC ended in a 1-1 draw at Nyamhunga Stadium yesterday, a disappointing outcome for the home team, especially after their recent loss to Chicken Inn at Luveve Stadium in Bulawayo.

The hosts started strong, with Munashe Kamwendo scoring in the seventh minute off an assist from Fanuel Shoko, giving them an early lead.

Despite this, the first half remained balanced, with both teams creating scoring opportunities.

However, ZPC Kariba’s defence appeared vulnerable, particularly due to the absence of centreback Boid Mutukure, who is reportedly moving to Manica Diamonds.

The home side’s Charles Munyanyi had a promising break through the visitors’ defence, but was ultimately stopped by a resolute Tafadzwa Nyabunze.

MWOS FC’s Billy Veremu consistently threatened ZPC Kariba’s defence.

His teammate, Malvern Takunda Mudzuka, missed an opportunity to equalise, failing to connect with a volley.

As the game intensified, another MWOS player, Tafadzwa George, had a shot on target, only to be denied by ZPC Kariba’s goalkeeper, Tatenda Munditi.

Just before halftime, Aboubakar Moffat (pictured) capitalised on a chance, scoring in the 45th minute to level the match at 1-1 for The Punters.

The second half saw no further goals, and the match concluded in a 1-1 draw, with ZPC Kariba unable to leverage their home advantage.

Following the game, MWOS head coach Lloyd Mutasa commented: “It’s never easy to get three points away from home. I think getting a point is a positive.”

ZPC Kariba head coach Newton Chitewe offered a different perspective.

“It was a very good and exciting game today. We had a couple of chances. Overall, it was a good game considering their style of play,” he said.

“They were attacking us in the first half, but we also got a goal. For me, it’s a point gained rather than two points dropped, especially considering how well they played.

“I don’t want to discredit them; they are playing exceptionally well.”
