HARARE giants Dynamos produced yet another lethargic performance after they played a drab draw against another relegation candidate Manica Diamonds at Rufaro Stadium yesterday.

The performance from both teams was a reflection of the position that they find themselves in.

Dynamos remain in 17th place with 16 points from 22 games after going five matches without a win, but to their credit ended a run of three defeats on the trot.

On the other hand, Manica Diamonds have now gone nine matches without a win since their 1-0 win over Triangle United on Africa Day.

They occupy 15th place with 22 points having played one game less.

Dynamos assistant coach Phillip Mutyakureva, who was in the dugout as head coach Saul Chaminuka was absent as he served the first of his two match ban by the Premier Soccer League, believes the team can still survive as matches slowly run out.

“The chances are still there. What’s needed now is to make sure we don’t drop points like we did today, but the chances are still there,” he said.

“We’re still in there, we still can survive, so it’s up to us to make sure we change, we change what has happened.”

A Tellmore Pio chance halfway through the first half was smartly saved by Tedious Baye.

The introduction of the young Enasio Perezo Jr gave Dynamos a bit of impetus in the second half, with Wisdom Mutasa and Emmanuel Jalai taking turns to miss glaring opportunities in quick succession.

Striker Frank Agyemang watched in disbelief as his flicked effort cannoned off the crossbar and back into play around the hour mark.

Manica Diamonds had issues of their going forward, resorting to shooting from afar despite being solid at the back.

The best chance fell to late substitute Leeroy Mavunga, who produced a free header at the back post, but Baye produced another good stop.

Manica Diamonds coach Tafadzwa Mashiri is also optimistic about survival.

“We posted a fair start to the season but recently we found ourselves in the relegation matrix, a very unfamiliar place for us as a team,” he said.

“But there is no one who is going to save us from that position. It’s us who should fight to quickly get out of that uncomfortable position that we find ourselves in.

“It calls for hard work, it calls for patience, it also calls for composure and astute planning.”
