The revival of the sport of lawn bowling continues as 12 teams from across the country took to the last phase of the Bowls Premier League (BPL) at Hillside Bowling Club, from last week culminating to the weekend.
The tournament concluded in emphatic fashion with Major Players clinching the overall title with a powerful final-round surge as their 329 pins and 117 aggregate points in BPL2 Round 5 propelled them to a tournament-best 1369.5 total game points and 99 tournament points.
The final round of the league was sponsored by Fawcett Security Zimbabwe.
Master Strikers delivered a strong closing round of 298 pins to finish on 1345 game points and 86 tournament points—just ahead of the KFC Zingers, who posted 307 pins but ended one point behind on 85 tournament points.
Great Bowls of Fire produced one of the day’s standout efforts with 312 pins, securing fourth place on 1323 total points.
They were followed by the Road Runners, who bowled 292 pins to comfortably seal fifth overall.
Hokoyo Chipoko, Siemeize, and the Bulldogs all produced respectable final-round scores but couldn’t break into the top tier.
Meanwhile, Chegutu Grand Masters, Golden Bowlers, and Fawcetts Fire remained in the lower ranks, with Phoenix closing the standings after posting 191 pins in Round 5.

The Zimbabwe Bowls Premier League has ignited much interest in the country and to popularise the bowls, the league in August, hosted pupils from Hartman House in Harare in an event that was sponsored by KFC Zimbabwe at Highlands Sports Club, with over 50 pupils rolling bowls.
Last week in Bulawayo, through Chas Everitt, Form 1 and 2 students from Falcon College and Christian Brothers College were introduced to the sport with sponsors saying; “We believe in in supporting initiatives that build strong communities and encourage youth development.
"It was inspiring to see these young men embrace the game with such enthusiasm.
"A huge thank you to Hillside Bowling Club for organising this event.”
The BPL sponsorship partners are Fawcett, KFC, Budget Butchery Bulawayo, Kitchens for Africa and Chas Everitt, among others.
