Chicken Inn bolster midfield with Makunike signing

CHICKEN Inn have made an early statement in the mid-season transfer window after signing enterprising midfielder Junior Makunike as they seek to revive their Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign.

The GameCocks confirmed the arrival of the 22-year-old, who becomes the club's first acquisition of the transfer window after spells with Dynamos, Simba Bhora and Hardrock FC.

Announcing the signing, Chicken Inn described Makunike as a player expected to add stability to their midfield as they strengthen for the second half of the season.

"Junior Makunike becomes an early statement in the mid-season transfer window after completing the signing of promising defensive midfielder Junior Makunike, who joins the club as their first acquisition of the window," the club said.

"The move marks a significant step in the 22-year-old's growing career, as he continues his rise in Zimbabwean football after spells with Dynamos, Simba Bhora and Hardrock FC. Makunike's arrival is seen as a major reinforcement of Chicken Inn's midfield stability and long-term planning as the Gamecocks look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League season."

Chicken Inn added that Makunike had earned a reputation as a disciplined and industrious midfielder capable of protecting the defence and bringing balance to the team.

"Makunike joins Chicken Inn with a strong reputation as a disciplined, hard-working defensive midfielder, capable of breaking up play, shielding the defence and providing balance in the centre of the park. His development has been closely followed since his breakthrough years, with coaches consistently praising his tactical awareness, composure on the ball and ability to read the game at a high level," the club said.

Makunike's arrival comes at a crucial time for Joey Antipas' side, who have struggled for consistency during the first half of the season and will be hoping new additions can help turn their fortunes around.

The Gamecocks are expected to strengthen further before the transfer window closes as they bid to improve their league position in the second half of the campaign.
