Zimbabwean football legend Sunday “Mhofu” Chidzambwa has spoken warmly about the enduring respect he continues to receive from former Warriors captain Peter Ndlovu.
Chidzambwa, who famously became the first coach to lead Zimbabwe to the Africa Cup of Nations, described Ndlovu as the finest captain he worked with throughout his coaching career.
The veteran coach praised the former Coventry City striker for his humility, leadership and selflessness, saying he always put the team’s interests ahead of his own.
Now serving as the technical director of FC Porto Dragon Force Zimbabwe Academy, Chidzambwa revealed that Ndlovu, currently the team manager at Scottland, still addresses him as “Dad”, a gesture he says reflects the mutual respect they built during their years with the Warriors.
“Of all the captains I worked with throughout my coaching career, I don’t think there was anyone better than Peter Ndlovu,” Mhofu said.
“That boy was a joy to work with. He was humble, respectful and always thought about the team before himself.
“Do you know he still calls me ‘Dad’ even today?”
Nicknamed Nsukuzonke during his illustrious playing career, Ndlovu captained the Warriors under Chidzambwa for many years, forming one of the most memorable coach-captain partnerships in Zimbabwean football history.
