This was heard by the Gokwe resident magistrate Sheppard Mjanja on Thursday when Bothwel Guwuriro (39) of Gokwe North appeared in court. Guwuriro was not asked to plead to the robbery charge and he was remanded in custody to July 15 for trial.

The prosecutor Mandla Ndlovu told the court that on March 3 the teacher, Beatrice Zhou, was walking from Denda business centre to school.

She heard footsteps behind and when she looked back, Guwuriro grabbed her demanding to have sex with her, but she screamed.

The suspect produced an okapi knife and demanded all her valuables.

He allegedly took her handbag with a Nokia cellphone, R4 000 cash, $16, passport and identity card, before fleeing from the scene.

Zhou reported the matter to the police’ leading to Guwuriro’s arrest.
